Spiffs: Individual Payment Incentives

What are Spiffs?

Spiffs (Sales Performance Incentive Funds) are individual payments made directly to users or contacts, as opposed to commissions which are paid to partner companies. They're commonly used for:

  • Sales rep bonuses: Reward individual salespeople for closing deals

  • Referral incentives: Pay the person who referred a lead, not just their company

  • Performance bonuses: Incentivise specific team members for hitting targets

Setting Up Spiff Commission Rules

Step 1: Navigate to Commission Settings

  1. Go to Settings > Commissions

  2. Click Create Commission

Step 2: Configure the Spiff

  1. Label: Give your spiff a descriptive name (e.g., "Sales Rep Bonus")

  2. Partner Type: Select the partner type this applies to (referral, reseller, etc.)

  3. Payment Target: Select Individual (this makes it a spiff instead of a commission)

  4. Auto-Assign Recipient: Choose how the recipient is determined:

    • Lead Creator: The user or contact who originally created the lead

    • Deal Owner: The user assigned to manage the deal

    • Manual: Select the recipient manually on each deal

Step 3: Set Up Calculation

Configure the spiff amount using the same options as commissions:

  • Fixed Amount: A set dollar amount per deal

  • Percentage: A percentage of the deal value

  • Scaling: Variable rates based on custom field values

Step 4: Assign the Spiff Rule

Assign your spiff rule to:

  • Specific partnerships

  • Partner tiers

  • Partner categories

Managing Spiffs on Deals

Viewing Spiff Payments

  1. Open a deal from the Deals page

  2. Click the Payments tab in the deal sidebar

  3. You'll see both commission and spiff payments listed

  4. Spiff payments show the individual recipient name

Manual Recipient Selection

If you configured the spiff with Manual auto-assign:

  1. Open the deal

  2. In the spiff configuration section, select the recipient

  3. Choose from available users or contacts

  4. The spiff payment will be created for that individual

Partner Portal Payments View

Partners can view their payments (including any spiffs they're receiving) in the Partner Portal:

  1. Access the Partner Portal

  2. Navigate to the Payments room (if enabled by the vendor)

  3. Use filters to view:

    • All payments: Both commissions and spiffs

    • Commissions only: Payments to the partner company

    • Spiffs only: Individual payments

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I have both commissions and spiffs on the same deal?

Yes! A deal can have both commission payments (to the partner company) and spiff payments (to individuals). They're tracked separately in the payments tab.

Who can receive spiff payments?

Spiffs can be paid to:

  • Users: JourneyBee users in your system

  • Contacts: Contacts associated with leads or partners

How do I see all spiff payments across deals?

  1. Go to the Payments page

  2. Use the Payment Type filter to select Spiffs

  3. You'll see all spiff payments across all deals

Can partners see spiff payments in their portal?

Yes, if the Payments room is enabled in the partner portal. Partners can filter by payment type to see their individual spiff payments.
